Question: When are patients screened for abuse?
Answer:
Inpatients will be screened for possible violence in the home (including domestic violence) upon initial assessment, with the exception of patients admitted to the NICU. Throughout the stay ALL inpatients will be assessed for concerns of abuse. Clinical Staff will observe the patient for signs of physical or behavioral or parent/guardian to child interactions that prompt concern for abuse/neglect. In addition, Children 6 years of age and older, will be asked if they feel safe at home.
Outpatient visits with a licensed practitioner, patients will be screened for possible violence in the home (including domestic violence) at each encounter. Clinical Staff will observe the patient for signs of physical or behavioral or parent/guardian to child interactions that prompt concern for abuse/neglect. In addition, Children 6 years of age and older, will be asked if they feel safe at home.
