As we approach the close of Hispanic Heritage Month, we recognize and celebrate the multiple countries, cultures, and dialects that encompass our Latino–Hispanic communities. The patients we serve and the teammates we work beside bring a richness to the diverse tapestry of LCMC Health.
Why does Hispanic Heritage Month begin Sept. 15?
September 15 marks the beginning of National Hispanic Heritage Month because it’s a huge day in the history of several Latin American countries. Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua all gained their independence on that date.
While we honor members of our community, we feel it’s important to note the origins of National Hispanic Heritage Month as well as what health and wellness looks like in the Hispanic community in 2023.
