Meet our new team members, Marcel & Tearani!

Marcel McGee, Director of Philanthropy, is a New Orleans native with more than 25 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, working in settings as varied as Teach for America, Loyola University New Orleans, Dillard University, WWOZ-FM, American Red Cross-Southeast Louisiana Chapter, the Enterprise Housing Foundation, and the Audubon Nature Institute. Marcel served in the United States Navy and is a graduate of Southern University at New Orleans. He also holds a Master of Science in Nonprofit Administration from LSU Shreveport.
His Little Extra: "Coming to the UMCNO family by way of the Spirit of Charity Foundation is a homecoming in two ways for me. One - because nearly 300 years ago a philanthropic gift literally planted the seed of our dear Charity and secondly, I was born actually born at Charity (but not 300 years ago).  So, this is a full-circle moment professionally and personally to give back to my city."

Tearani Nance serves as Trauma Recovery and Violence Intervention Program Manager for the new Trauma Recovery Center at University Medical Center. Her passion for healthcare ignited from witnessing disparities that minorities endure, such as having limited access to high-quality health facilities and experiencing biases caused by being underrepresented in healthcare spaces. When the opportunity presents itself, Tearani makes it known that she is a proud Texan. In August 2015, she came to New Orleans to study at Xavier University of Louisiana.
While in college, Tearani began her career in healthcare and has worked in various disciplines such as behavioral health, emergency departments, research, primary care, and clinical operations. Before joining UMC, she worked as a health coach at Access Health Louisiana, where she helped patients manage their chronic conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity, and reinforced habits that aid in healthy lifestyles. Also at Access Health Louisiana, Tearani began her leadership career as a Clinic Operations Manager of a behavioral health and primary care clinic. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology degree and is currently in graduate school pursuing a Master of Business Administration concentrating in Healthcare Management.

Her little extra is that she loves to travel and learn about different cultures.
